How to Block a Sender in Outlook using Email Address?

Outlook comes with an inbuilt feature that allows the users to stop receiving emails from any unwanted sender by blocking the email address of that particular sender. This way you can easily stop spam and phishing emails from cluttering your inbox and affecting the security of your account. Blocking a Sender Via Outlook Mail on the Web

To block an email address, you can set up a rule in your Outlook Mail on the web which will delete emails from a sender and also remove all current emails from him.

1.) Launch Outlook Mail and go to the Mailbox.

2.) Select any of the emails from the sender who you wish to block in Outlook Mail.

3.) Open the email and click Sweep on the web toolbar. A sheet will appear on your screen.

4.) From the sheet that appears on your screen, make sure you select the “Delete all messages from the inbox folder and any future messages” option.

5.) Next, click on the Sweep option and then on the OK button. Outlook.com will move all the emails from the particular email address in the current folder to the Deleted folder and list the sender’s email address to the Blocked Senders list.

NOTE: Emails in other folders such as archiving folder will not be moved to the Deleted folder.

Blocking a Sender Via Outlook.com

To delete all emails from a sender in the inbox folder (or another folder) and block him in your Outlook.com, follow these steps:

1.) In your Outlook Mail, open an email from the sender whom you wish to block.

NOTE: Instead of opening an email, you can also check it on the email list. When you select more than one email, Outlook.com will allow you to block all their respective senders in a single action.

2.) Next, click on the Sweep option in the toolbar.

3.) Then, from the menu that appears on your screen, select the option which reads “Delete all messages from the inbox folder and any future messages”.

4.) Make sure that you select the “Also block future messages” option.

5.) After that, simply click on the Delete all option.

Outlook.com will move all the emails from the particular email address in the current folder to the Deleted folder and list the sender’s email address to the Blocked Senders list.

NOTE: Emails in other folders such as archiving folder will not be moved to the Deleted folder.

Block an Email Address in Outlook Mail on the Web

Following are the steps to add an email address or domain name to the Blocked Senders list of your Outlook.com.

1.) In your Outlook Mail on the web toolbar, click on the Settings (gear icon) option.

2.) Next, from the menu that appears on your screen, select Options.

3.) Then, open the Mail > Junk email > Blocked senders category.

4.) Enter the email address or domain of the sender whom you wish to block and click +.

5.) The sender will be blocked from sending emails to your account using the email address that you blocked.

NOTE:

  • You will need to block sub-domains separately.
  • Some domains such as AOL.com cannot be blocked completely in Outlook Mail on the web.

1.) Click on the Settings (gear icon) option in the toolbar of Outlook.com.

2.) Next, from the menu that appears on your screen, select Options.

3.) Then, go to the Preventing junk email option and select the Safe and blocked senders.

4.) On the next screen, click on the Blocked sender’s option.

5.) Under Blocked email address or domain section. You will need to enter the email address or the domain name which you wish to block and click on the Add to list option.

NOTE: In case you get an error message which says that you can’t add this item to this list because it will impact a large number of messages or important notifications. Or if you see an error message that the domain can’t be added to the blocked sender’s list, follow these steps:

Block Domains That Are Restricted From Blocking

1.) Click on the Settings (gear icon) in Outlook.com.

2.) From the menu that appears on your screen, select the Manage rules option.

3.) Next, click on the New option under Rules for sorting new messages. Make sure that you have selected Sender contains option under When an email matches option.

4.) Now enter the domain (with quotation marks) that you wish to block. If the domain is example@**mail.com, enter it as “example@**mail.com”.

5.) Then, make sure that you have selected Delete under Do the following option. Alternatively, you can select the Move to option instead of Delete to move the emails to a separate folder other than deleting them.

6.) After that, click on the Create rule option to complete the process.

To Get Rid of Spam Emails

Remember that blocking a certain email address or domain will not help you keep your account clear from Spam emails. This is because, generally, Spam email senders use different email addresses. To fight Spamming, always make sure to report junk emails whenever they get into your Inbox. This will help Outlook in filtering spam emails and prevent similar emails from making it into your inbox in the future. Similarly, you can report phishing scams in your Outlook Mail.
