How to Reset Outlook Password?

Forgetting password for your Outlook account is quite common, however, if you remember the password for your Outlook account and if still, you are unable to access your account, then there is a possibility that your Outlook account might have been hacked by someone who breached your security and changed the password for your Outlook account.

In such a case, you can recover your Outlook account by resetting the password for it. To know how to reset the password for your Outlook account, follow the step-by-step instructions provided below.

Steps to Reset Outlook Password

1.) Open the Sign-in page of Microsoft in your web browser and enter your User ID (Email, phone, or Skype). Then, click on the Next button.

2.) Now on the next screen, you will need to click on the Forgot my password link. This will take you to the next page where you will need to click on the “I forgot my password” option.

3.) Next, enter the Captcha as shown on the next screen and click on the Next button. You will be given three options on the next screen which will be something like these:

  • Email ******@gmail.com
  • Text ********36
  • I don’t have any of these

Select any one of the options as per your preference in order to verify your identity as the rightful owner.

4.) If you select any of the top two options from the list and hit Send Code button, a security code will be sent to your email or phone number (depending upon the option selected). Enter the security code which you received in the provided field on the subsequent screen and click on the Next button.

5.) If the verification code matches successfully, you will be directed to the Password Reset page. Then, simply enter your new password in the prompted fields and click on the Next button to recover your Outlook account.

Note: If you select “I don’t have any of these” options in Step 3, you will be taken to a new page where you need to provide an alternative email address to receive a security code which you will be asked to enter on the next screen. After that, you will be prompted to fill out a form. Based on the information provided to you, if Outlook considers you as the rightful owner of the account, you will be permitted to recover your Outlook account.
